Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club

1. Location

Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club is located on Kalapaki Beach, one of the nicest beaches in Kauai. It is very calm and never crowded - Kauai Marriott is the only hotel in this area.

It is only about 5 minutes away from the airport, but you hardly hear any noise. The hotel offers free shuttle to and from the airport.

The entrance to Kauai Marriott Resort is totally awe-inspiring. You'll feel like you have just stepped into a movie! A long escalator takes you down to the lower open-air area where you will stroll past a beautiful garden/pond area complete with black-necked swans. Then you finally arrive at the reception desk.

Once you have settled in, you will love walking around the 800 acres of grounds and looking at waterfalls, fish ponds, swans and ducks, gorgeous trees and plants. There are a lot of wild chickens roaming the property, and actually, the whole island. The hotel has a unique Oriental flavor reflected in the artwork around the garden.

This restaurant is named for the great surfing legend Duke Kahanamoku and has a lot of related memorabilia. Specialties include a great salad bar, fresh fish and the hula pie.

On the lower level, Duke’s also has more casual Barefoot Bar and Grill which is exactly what it says – leave the beach in bare feet and walk in for a drink (try the native Kona beer), some nachos, or a burger. You can sit inside by a stream with lots of plants, or outside on the patio.

Open for lunch and dinner.

3) Kalapaki Grill
Lounge by Hawaii's largest swimming pool as you sip refreshing beverages and enjoy flame-broiled burger and garden fresh salad served in quaint "dim sum" basket. Menu also includes island ice cream and traditional Hawaiian shave ice.

4. Things to do

  • Beach activities
The beach in front of Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club is very clean, and has lots of shade and lounge chairs. Waiters walk around all the time to bring you drinks.

If you don’t feel like lounging around, you can try any other activity – swimming (safe all year-round), volleyball (nets are always set up), surfing, boogie boarding, wind sailing or just walking.

Snorkeling at Kalapaki Beach is not very good, but there is a tremendous snorkeling area 5 minutes away. Head East to Lidgate State Park and enjoy the colorful fish and occasional sea turtle you will see in a protected coral-bordered pond.

  • Pool
The pool at Kauai Marriott Resort is the main focal point for relaxation. It is huge and has 3 waterfalls, numerous spouting fountains, 4 hot tubs adjacent to the pool, and many lounge chairs set around the pool and on the small island in the center of the pool. You can hang around the pool all day, enjoying warm sun and a good book, and have someone come by your lounge chair regularly to see if you need another drink or snack.

The pool and Jacuzzi remain open after dark, and you can turn in pool towels as late as 7pm, or even the next morning.

  • Golf
The par-72 Kauai Lagoons Golf Club was designed by Jack Nicklaus and has been described as one of the finest golf gems in the Pacific. Set against the background of Mt Waialeale, a 500-foot peak in the middle of Kauai Island, this course is spectacular both in scenery and the challenges offered to the golfer.

Hole 13 – perhaps the most beautiful on the course – has a view of the outer harbor and the range of mountains across the bay, and is a 188-yard par-3. Played with the prevailing wind, the tee shot should not be a difficult shot. However, beware of hole 18, played into the prevailing wind and sporting an island green. This one tends to unnerve all but the outstanding golfer.

Kauai Marriott guests get discounted green fees. You can make reservations through the activity desk after you arrive.

  • Children’s Program (fee)
The Kalapaki Kids program at Kauai Marriott Resort offers half-day and full-day programs on Sat, Sun and Mon, as well as night program every Wed that includes dinner and videos (days subject to change). Children are placed into age groups (5 to 12 years old) and are well supervised. Activities include lei making, hula dancing, games, arts and crafts.

    Other resort facilities include:
  • Full-service spa
  • Free state-of-the-art fitness center
  • Shopping arcade (resort wear, original artwork and souvenirs, sundry store)
  • 8 tennis courts
  • Watersports equipment rentals
  • Game room
  • Concierge
  • Activity desk
  • Babysitting (fee)
  • Business center
  • Beauty salon
  • Free airport shuttle
  • Laundromat
  • Laundry and dry cleaning valet service (fee)
  • Valet parking ($9/day in 2005)
